aDuring my recent pregnancy I was perpetually nauseous and my Crohns Colitis flared. There were days when all I could manage was to spit out the gum I was chewing and save it for some vague project. I gathered the gum the way I used to collect dried plants, paper, photographs, and writings. I see the gum as an extension of my body--a nonnourishing food that was inside me and took on parts of me (my saliva, my teeth marks). I saved about 150 pieces for my evolving project Pregnancy Curiosities. It is a taxonomy of my pregnancy, motherhood, and of my continually changing body
